D4 Community Connects - Office of Behavioral Health Services

Thank you for joining us for our 28th installment of the D4 Community Connects neighborhood leaders call. Thank you for spending your evening with us. These calls feature updates on the work of my office and the County at large, expanded space for Q&A and discussion, and a special guest representing one of the County’s 40 departments!

Today’s guest is from our Department of Behavioral Health, a critical service the County offers to our 1.9 million residents.

The mission of the Department of Behavioral Health Services is to assist individuals in our community affected by mental illness and serious emotional disturbance to achieve their hopes, dreams and quality of life goals. To accomplish this, services are delivered in the least restrictive, non-stigmatizing, most accessible environment within a coordinated system of community and self-care, respectful of a person's family and loved ones, language, culture, ethnicity, gender and sexual identity.

• County Health System Expands COVID-19 Vaccination to Individuals Age 65 and Older
• State Announces Lifting of Regional Stay at Home Order, Returning Santa Clara County to Purple Tier
• The County has updated the directive for youth and adult recreation activities, including youth sports - This was done to align with the State mandatory directive and to reflect the release of the Regional Stay-at-Home order for Bay Area Counties by the State.

• ​RACE AND HEALTH DISPARITIES COMMUNITY BOARD - Santa Clara County strives to be a leader in equity and social justice, and in the delivery of high quality, accessible health care to all residents. Despite strengths in each of these areas, more work is needed to assure our values as a County are represented in the care of each patient in our health system. This will require an honest and explicit recognition of the impact of race as a driver of health inequities. For that, we need your help. If you have been a patient of the Santa Clara County Health and Hospital System you are eligible to represent the community on the County’s Race and Health Disparities Community Board. Your lived experience with the county health system would benefit the Race and Health Disparities Community Board. This 11-member board, initiated by myself and Supervisor Simitian, seeks to address issues of race and race-based health disparities within the County health care delivery system.
