February 2023 Newsletter

February may be the shortest month, but it was a busy one in D4 and in the County! In this newsletter, I am excited to cover the Board’s unanimous vote to allocate $20M in ARPA funds for childcare and early education infrastructure and workforce development programs, as well as the groundbreaking of a first-of-its-kind in the County behavioral health center on the VMC campus that will serve children, adolescents and adults, but first I’d like to highlight some of the wonderful community events I attended.

I joined Santa Clara County Public Health Department and community partners including the Black Leadership Kitchen Cabinet of Silicon Valley and the Silicon Valley African American Film Festival for Black Family Day. I presented a proclamation recognizing the month as African Ancestry Health & Heritage Month to Jahmal Williams, Dir. of Advocacy for Racial Justice at SJSU. I look forward to continuing to work alongside the community to hold our County accountable for improved outcomes in racial and health justice.
